Fountain Hills mandates protection for Saguaros
Full Description:
Developers in Fountain Hills will be encouraged to minimize the number of cactuses they disturb during construction and must preserve or move any saguaro at least 3 feet tall under a measure approved Thursday.
The measure approved by the Town Council is the latest in a series of steps intended to preserve the desert look of the northeast Phoenix suburb.
Two weeks ago, the council passed measures requiring low-water landscaping on new developments.
Developers must now get pay a $90 fee and take out a permit before any cactus is disturbed.
